As some of you know, I have been spending time on Whidbey Island working on my next book. It’s relaxing, beautiful and a wonderful place to write. So for the first time, I’ve decided to hold my weekend-long Hungry for Words, an intensive introduction to food writing, at the historic Capt. Whidbey Inn on the lovely Penn Cove this November 12th to the 14th. The cost is $345 per person, not including lodging; sign up before Sept. 30th, and you’ll get the early bird rate of $295 per person. The cost includes all meals Friday evening through Sunday morning, plenty of wine and some terrific course materials. To maintain an intimate feel, the retreat will be limited to 16 participants. The Inn will offer a discount on rooms for retreat members, and if you want to be hooked up with a roommate, we will help organize.
In the past, I’ve done the class twice a year, and it tends to sell out quickly. So, if you’re interested, go ahead and secure a spot. (If you cancel by Oct. 10th, you’ll receive a full refund.) We’ll discuss the genre of food writing past, present and future, plus cover the fundamentals of book proposals, pitch letters, recipe writing, finding a niche in the busy food blog world, restaurant reviewing, ethics and more. We’ll also do a series of writing exercises over the weekend, and discuss assigned reading over cocktails near the fire after dinner.
Drop me an email for more information.
Update: Here’s an agenda for the weekend.
