AUTHOR BIO

Kathleen Flinn is the author of The New York Times bestseller, The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry (Viking/Penguin 2007), a memoir-with-recipes about her experiences leaving the corporate world to study at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris – where she fell in love along the way. Her second book, The Kitchen Counter Cooking School: How a Few Simple Lessons Transformed Nine Women into Fearless Home Cooks (Viking/Penguin, October 2011) explored a project in which Flinn tried to understand why people rely on convenience foods and what kinds of cooking lessons make an impact on inexperienced cook. That title earned rave reviews from dozens of media outlets, including People, the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus Reviews and won a 2012 Book Award from the American Society of Jounalists & Authors. Her next book, a childhood memoir-with-recipes, is slated to be released by Viking/Penguin in early 2014.
A writer for more than 20 years in print and online, her work has appeared in more than three dozen publications worldwide. Her last day job was head of editorial for MSN in the United Kingdom. She serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Culinary Professionals. She divides her time between Seattle and Anna Maria Island, Fla., with her husband, Mike, and trusty rescue dog, Maddy.
