The rustically ravishing home is nestled on the first homestead by a white person on the island. (Apparently, the natives weren’t happy neighbors; they burned down the first couple houses on the site.) We brought virtually everything with us — all the food, wine, loads of knives, cooking utensils and even aprons. My friend Jeff even made a batch of flatbreads the night prior for the appetizers, which we carefully tucked into tupperware. We started at 3 p.m. and left at nearly midnight.
I’m not sure who had more fun, the guests or the cooks. Ted, Mike, Maggie, Lisa and I all had a grand time hanging out in the kitchen, making it all happen overcoming the lack of a BBQ to cook the paella and a functional oven to bake the oven.
