How Make Salt-Free Poultry Seasoning

Kathleen Flinn · March 7, 2013 · 2 Comments

A mortar and pestle is great for making spice or herb combinations; they can be purchased for as little as $10.

Simply combine the ingredients and grind together with a mortar or pestle or a small food grinder. I set aside a coffee grinder for milling whole spices or mixes. If you want to use a coffee grinder that’s been employed for beans, you can clean it by adding in rice and salt and grinding thoroughly and then wiping clean with a paper towel.  This is a versatile seasoning that can be used in a lot of applications, including as makes a rub for roasted chicken. Store in an air-tight container.

1 tablespoon crumbled dried sage
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons dried marjoram
2 teaspoons dried rosemary
½ teaspoon celery seed
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon fresh ground pepper

I made this and it came out great. I”m going to make all my own blends now. Thanks for the tip about buying herbs and spices in bulk… I had never done that.
